401k employer contribution

Hi,

I want to know, in 401k plan, once the employee crosses the age 50, he is entitled to get a catch-up of $ 5500

Is employer contribution for catch-up is optional or mandatory ( if employee opt for catch-up, ...... employer has to contribute for his catch-up plan or not)
