how is field CLOSD in table T5U0P Updated??

I am reviewing some OSS notes for an ECC stack upgrade.  I came across a field I am not familiar with, PA Closed Date (V_T5U0P-CLOSD),

the Personnel Areas/Subareas (V_T5U0P) view.  Does this field allow you to put an "end date" on a personnel area if it is no longer used?  If yes, I would LOVE to use this field to flag some old personnel areas as "inactive".  How can I do this?
